Magnet had avoided defeat by the Mighty Shambles last season, as the Yellows fought battles in the top flight. Not wanting to miss another chance to claim the bragging rights (again), the Shambles dropped back into division 2 to give Magnet another lesson in football.

With new signings Si & Andy and with favoured keeper James out due to injury, the shape and appearance of the Yellows was different for this fixture.

Banter prior to fixture was in full flow & a relieved Jase, keeper for Magnet, was pleased to see Worst (Ian) in goals.

The warm up period was incredibly short & the whistle blew to start the game. Magnet, also with unfamiliar faces since the last contest, took an early lead. (I confess at this point that I have no notes or video footage, so I will use artistic licence to paint the picture…) Their first goal was well struck. Low & hard to keepers right. His impending old age not allowing him to get down like the old days!

Shambles rallied, and I must say that they played with patience & urgency. Passing was well controlled and effective. When the opportunity arose, the ball was pinged around with so much pace & accuracy Magnet couldn’t get close to it. Soon, Shambles the were dominating and quickly put 3 goals away. (Sorry guys, I can’t remember who scored what now!). Andy (Magnet striker… ) had several chances to put one past his work colleague & opposition keeper, but his attempts were all thwarted by an inform (or extremely lucky!) keeper.

Magnet fought back but it was too little, too late. A couple of quick goals (good finishes) brought them back into the game, only to see a composed Shambles team take full advantage & 3 (more) points from Magnet.

The game ended 6 – 4, a fair result & a good contest. The return fixture is going to be a big one for both teams. Will Magnet win the bragging rights then? Watch this space….
