Shambles 0 - 11 All Stars

Shambles 0 - 11 All Stars Shambles arrived this week knowing they were facing a formidable looking All Stars team, who topped the league after their first 2 games with a hatful of goals for and just 2 against.
Many of the Shamblers, however, were unaware of the true size of the task. The manager, despite digging deep into the Shambles reserves list, could only muster 5 willing lambs to be put to the slaughter - and boy were they!
Without the services of our only recognised goalkeeper, the Shambles lined up with Will in goal and Ian, Rob, Si and Mickey playing outfield.
Despite the Shambles having the first effort on goal in the game, it was apparent that the quality of the All Stars boys was going to be a tough ask for the brave Shamblers. The first goal came from some good All Star interchanges, with a shot down to the keepers right.
At this point it was clearly apparent that having a goalkeeper that can't readily dive both left and right was going to be an issue! ;)
Forgive this reporter for his lack of information on the first half. All I can recall is that All Stars had 8 efforts on target and scored 6, and that the Shambles men, despite their effort, were well and truly all over the shop!

The half-time tactics were simple - swap out the useless goalkeeper for one that was a bit better (or perhaps less useless might be a better phrase?!). Ian pulled on the gloves and we were ready to commence battle - or at least try and win the second-half. For a brief period, Shambles looked better and held more of their shape. Unfortunately, the quality All Stars passing, foot-work and movement was too much for the ever fatiguing legs of the shambles boys, and it was inevitable that the All Stars were going to break through.
Things went from bad to worse when Si sustained an ankle injury midway through the second-half, leaving the Shambles to battle on with just 4. Unfortunately, the All Stars weren't in a festive mood for taking pity, and well and truly went for the jugular. As the final whistle rang out, I think I'm right in saying that most of the Shambles boys were pleasantly surprised to learn that only 11 goals had been conceded. Believe me, it felt like much more!

All I can say is fair play to the All Stars - they are a very good side and I for one will be surprised if they do not win the league. I would like to commend the effort and the good heart the Shamblers took their defeat in - there were smiles after and an acceptance that we could have done little more to prevent the result - so on that note well done boys. Also great credit to Ian, who proved he is a less useless goalkeeper than me by only conceding 5 in the second half ;).
Hopefully we will have more players to call upon next time we face the All Stars, so that the boys in yellow and blue/black can give a better account of themselves. We have a couple of weeks before the next game, and I believe we have easier opponents to come than those faced in recent weeks.
All that is left to say is I hope you guys have a very Merry Christmas and a fantastic new year!
Up the Shambles,
