Steady Shambles reign supreme as Strapping young Lads prove not to be 'twice a nighters'
Steady Shambles reign supreme as Strapping young Lads prove not to be 'twice a nighters'

Last night's fixture was a rearranged match from the fixture chaos a fortnight earlier.

To add to the Shambles' backlog woes, the Lumberjacks had had to cancel last night's fixture so this was hastily added to the schedule. A big thank you to SYL for agreeing to play this one straight after their fixture.

Most of the Shambles underwent a modest pre-game work out. Despite he warmth of a late summer evening, HRH insisted on keeping his hands in the pockets of his teddy bear suit. Apparently he was worried his crown jewels would fall out!!

This game was a potential banana skin as we could not be sure that the opposition might be warmed up to such a degree that we might be outpaced. With this in mind, I gave the team instructions earlier in the day to start sensibly and poundthe oppo later. True followers of the Shambles (are there any?) will already know that they would now do the exact opposite.

The Shambles line up of youth & optimism and old & sceptical took to the arena against the youth & optimism of SYL.

Both teams started brightly. Both were not defending too brilliantly.

Against recent form it was the Shambles who struck first....Gooooo-aal......Craig rifling home.

What's this? pick me up & slap me concious........It's the Bandit striking another Gooooo-aal!......2-0

The Shambles were doing their best to help SYL by leaving defenders totally unmarked on the opposite side of the pitch, as they glanced admiringly at the ball. However SYL were failing to capitalise.

Attacking wise it was a different story for the Shambles, blink and you missed BLINK....Craig slots in another.....Goooo-aal! .......3-0.

Eventually lethargic defending presented SYLwith an opportunity they took.........3-1

Like a wounded animal The Bandit pulled the trigger at the other end.....Wham, bam....Goooo-aal.....4-1.

Hey what's this? Scything his way through the crop of youngsters, HRH, crown jewels safely in place, scores......Gooooo-aal.......5 -1

Anything Bandit does I can do better....Blink and you've missed him again.....Goooo-aal, Craig HATTRICK......6-1

Still playig their hearts out SYL took advantage of the Shambles commitment forwards as opposed to backwards......6-2.

Half time. Yes, half time not ful time.

From the gallery I told my troops to calm it and try defending as we looked weak at the back at times. I also advised they follow the players not the ball. Yes die hard Shambles' fans, my words gently fluttered unnoticed into the night air.

Second half commenced attacking football from both sides leaving gaps at the back.

What's this? After a bit of interplay around the edge of SYLs area. the pocket rocket Keith placed the ball in the net.....Goooo-aal......7-2

The Bandit now feeling a little left out decided to try and assert 'Who's the Daddy' again...Goooo-aal........HATTRICK.......8-2

At this point the Shambles decided to have a rest!!

Wham.....8-3.........Bam.......8-4

At this point one or two alarm bells should have been ringing but the Shambles are deaf and did not alter tactics.

Taking advantage of the tiring SYL the Shambles' hero struck the final blows.

Craig......Goooo-aal.....9-4

Craig...........Gooooo-aal.....10-4

5 star performance Blink.

Well done both teams for attacking football, aided by kamikaze defending on occaions with more gaps than can be found on a Central London High Street. The Shambles maintain their undefeated form and the SYL show glimpses of their potential once they become accustomed to the league.

Special mentions:

Unlucky Flash. if only The Bandit had moved the ball to kick off that would have been a good goal. The dynamic duo are obviously frightened of letting you start a scoring spree!

Well done HRH on one of the rare occasions you were to be found in defence for a fantastic last ditch tackle to take the ball from the striker on the edge of the area.

Hopefully you won't have to keep telling everyone about these two moments now!!
