Shambles were still suffering from selection problems with Craig, Keith, Darren, Tim and Dave all unavailable.
Shambles started confident but within less than a minute found themselves already a goal behind after Ade, in a defending role , was caught in possession and the Knowles striker shaving the inside of the post to score.Once settled the Shambles were unlucky not to equalise through stand in striker James after some good build up play. It had to be noted at this point that one of the young spectators watching with this reporter then asked me if number 4 was my son???!!!!!! (sorry Chris!)
The Shambles seemed then to lose all structure with woefull marking and slack backpassing resulting in Knowles' possession which when won back was given away again almost immeadiatly and with defenders all pushing forward, Knowles easily made it 2 - 0.
A short term ralley was on the cards but was cut short after a squandered free kick on the edge of the Knowles' area was intercepted and punished with another goal 3- 0!
It was The shambles turn to intercept with Ade latching on to a loose ball and getting a shot on target! However a few seconds later the rebounded ball was picked up by Knowles and thundered into the Shambles' net 4 - 0 ! Shambles then settled and were unlucky not to find the Knowles' net with a good move between Ade and James that just needed a final pass to finish it off but was taken a touch too much and the oppertunity was gone! Knowles immeadiatly countered and although a good interception by James, the loose ball was not picked up and the Knowles' striker struck again 5 - 0!
Shambles finally found another gear and seemed to be playing with a bit more grit and determination now which saw some good passing. A Knowles counter attack saw keeper Ian pull of three great saves one after the other , although the third shot was well inside the Shambles box when struck but knowing our luck would have benn given anyway! An intercepted pass saw James clear through and with a great finish made it 5 - 1 ( I put it down to Dave's shirt he had borrowed!) Having now found where the net was Shambles pushed forward with shots from James and Graham unlucky not to add to the score.
Second half started as the first had finished with another Graham rocket unsuccessfull If only Shambles had started the first half like this! Unfortunatly referee Graham gave a free kick in Knowles favour due to their striker knocking Chris over after a shot?? New rule anyone?? Luckily nothing came of it as Ade cleared comfortably.
Knowles pushed forward and a great shot was met with an equally great stop by Chris. The same striker was not going to let Chris do the same again and twisted and turned 2 or 3 times before scoring Knowles' 6th! 6 - 1!
Shambles were lucky not to concede again as another unmarked striker was left alone only for Ian to save but this was short lived as another shot was curled into the shambles' net from almost the half way line 7 - 1
Shambles bombarded the Knowles goal from the restart with 3 or 4 good chances and only when Knowles then pushed forward and James found himself one on one with the Knowles' keeper after a through ball from Ade did the the Shambles finally score again 7 - 2 , James' 2nd and Dave's shirts' 2nd!!
Things seemed to be winding down with the Shambles' longing for the final whistle but alas it wasn't over yet as,after a soft pass from Chris , the Knowles striker broke through and calmly made it 8 - 2.
Chris tried to make ammends by forcing a great save from the opposition keeper straight after the kick off but then mercifully the final whistle was blown and it was all over 8-2.
