SHAMBLES 2 : DIRTY HALF DOZEN 6

The Shambles were fielding a depleted team with Top Scorer Craig still sunning himself in warmer climates, keeper Darren still out with rib injury, Tim out with shoulder problems and Dave suffering ankle problems just as he was finding the net ( and its NOT ankle strain due to all the weight he is carrying thanks Tim!).

The game started well with newcomer James having an early chance right from the off following some slick passing by Ade and Keith.Things remained balanced with neither team having any clear chances as both sides were keeping things very tight. With referee Graham's typical approach to the "play to the whistle" rule, Ade suddenly found himself chasing a ball on his own after every one else had stopped for an obvious over head height infringement, unfortunatly getting to it just a second after it had reached the opponent's goal area. Again both teams kept it tight with Shambles defending brilliantly as Dirty Half Dozen pushed forward, stand in keeper Ian making excellent diving save Darren would be proud of.

Shambles then pushed forward themselves but were found with a 2 against 1 counter attack following an uncharacteristic short back pass from Ade that left them 1 nil down. Shambles then settled once more riding all the pressure from DHD with Ian again making some great saves and one assist from the post just on the stroke of half time!

Second half started with Chris on one of his charging runs  but shooting just wide. Keith then found himself on his own up front and with just the keeper to beat seemed destined to score but was thwarted by a great diving save.Another counter attack saw yet again DHD slot in a goal , 2- 0 down.

More pressure from DHD resulted in  Shambles then  being dealt a bitter blow with another great save from Ian seemingly rebounding back off an attacking player and looping high over head and into the net at one point seeming to pass by the spectators watching from the gallery window above! 3 -0

The restart almost saw The Shambles back in it following a thunderous shot from Chris and a pounced on rebound by Ade forcing DHD keeper to make another outstanding save. An almost repeat manouvre minutes later resulted this time in succes 3 - 1 , was a comeback on the cards?

Another typical referee "was it ,wasn't it "overhead decision followed that left all in confusion as first the free kick was awarded to one then the other team! (This free kick was awarded for an ball that was much lower than the ball that had looped in for the last DHD goal!!) No wonder all were confused.

Shambles were so confused that seconds later found themselves 4 - 1 down! However they rallied again and from the restart Chris's fine one -two with Ade saw the big defender find the back of the net. 4 - 2!  Unmarked DHD striker then pounced on a rebounded shot and made it 5 - 2 .As seemed to be the trend the restart saw Ade forcing the DHD keeper to make a great save that somehow bobbled the wrong side of the post - foiled again!

Shambles pushed forward yet again and now it was defender Graham's turn to find a shot the wrong side of the post. Looks like  it just wasn't going to be Shambles' night. This was evident after DHD managed to squeeze another rebound in after an initial save by Ian. 6 - 2 The restart specialists then forced another great save from DHD keeper with Chris unlucky not to score again.

Final whistle with the score not really reflecting the actual game .Unlucky again Shambles, the return fixture should be interesting!

Good write up, it was indeed a lot closer than it looks from the score.
