No, this is not the latest in the the Bruce Willis franchise in which he takes on a buch of disillusioned old nuns who have become terrorists! Instead, it is probably the reason why The Shambles did not take all three points in week 3 of the Perdiswell indoor 5-a-side.
On this occasion, this reporter/player manager decided not to give a repeat performance of last week's pre-match pep talk.
The first half saw plenty of endeavour, but no goals. Sweeping attacks from the back by both teams, turned into the equivalent of pass the parcel with a hand grenade near the opposition goal, as both sides struggled to hit the target.
Ian for The Shambles got himself into a great position, following a great through ball towards the end of the half, but his shot unfortunately ballooned towards my vantage point, 10 feet above the goal mouth. If the game followed the trend of Twenty20 cricket, a rousing chorus of "Reach for the Stars..." might have played over the PA at that point.
The second half would have played out the same, but tiring legs on both sides afforded more space, and allowed goals to enter the fray.
YM took the lead 1-0, but the determined Shambles continued to play going forward with great belief, and scored a deserved equaliser via Craig.
The Shambles then allowed the "moth to a flame" defensive weakness to rear its ugly head again as ball watching left a YM player unmarked, and he promptly met a pass on the edge of the area to score.
Credit, where credit is due, the Shambles took the blow on the chin but again "cometh the hour, cometh the new striker", and Craig scored the all important equaliser, 2-2.
Having achieved their first ever draw in a league game last week after waiting years, the Shambles are now finding them coming along like buses all at once. In light of last seasons struggle to get a point, the early season promise is there, but The Shambles need to show greater defensive concentration to build upon this early form.
Once again well played the newcomers, your team mates are really appreciative of the extra dimension you have brought this season. Darren's excellent goalkeeping, Craig's deadly finishing and Keith's composed defending/lynchpin role.
I appreciate that my comments about the defending can seem harsh sometimes, but last week showed that tight defending can add a new dimension.
Rather than thinking YM, this player manager is thinking, Y...O....Y..... did I not give them a defensive pep talk. Sorry lads, Ii'll be back on the case next week. Well played to come back.
