With a repeat opening fixture against last seasons top of the table BJH Motors, The Shambles had their work cut out for them.
Missing from the starting line up was inspirational Captain Shirehorse, Tim ,who was unavailable for selection due to a prior charity dinner with Jan Molby.
A few notable changes to this season's squad were in the starting line up;
Due to Carlos' move to London we welcome back former squad member and previous Golden boot award winner Paul ,and after the shock departure of keeper James and striker Carl ( btw:THANKS A LOT FOR GIVING US 2 DAYS NOTICE BEFORE THE @*&%£#* SEASON STARTED!!!) , we have recruited new keeper Tom and midfielder Ade.
The game itself had a dream start . The Shambles were awarded kick off and after a simple tap back by Paul the ball was met with a perfect strike by current Golden Boot winner Dave who buried it in the top corner of the stunned oppositions net! 1 - 0 to The Shambles after 3 seconds!!
It was unfortunatly all downhill from there as after a few minutes BJH equalised, then shortly after took the lead. However almost immeadiatly The Shambles were back on level terms after a great through ball from Paul and an equally great simple finish by Chris.
The game settled for a while until an uncharacteristic own goal by Paul saw BJH retain their lead, and after a shocking decision to award BJH a penalty saw them go 4 - 2 up.
Second half saw The Shambles in a bit of a muddle shape wise and BJH just picked off one goal after another, although it has to be mentioned that new keeper, Tom's ability to save the ball by sitting on it ,on at least 3 occasions saved Shambles blushes even further.
A consolation 3rd goal by newcomer Ade made the score a little less one sided and the game finished 9 - 3 in favour of last years table toppers BJH.
The Shambles should not be too down hearted as this was the first game with major squad changes and the potential is there to equal last seasons 4th place finish! Watch this Space!
The icing on the cake for this performance had to be after the game had finished with the following games' teams entering the gym to warm up for their match. Amongst them were the two notable faces of Carl and James who had resigned from The Shambles only 2 days before!
Now we all understand that if they want to play for another team then thats fine and we wish them well, but to resign 2 days before they were due to play and obviously knew that they were leaving has left a rather bitter taste in the mouth of all remaining Shambles players. To say the very least we are all really P@#&ed Off in the manner that they left as we thought we deserved a bit more respect than that!
We look forward to our first game against them!!!
